چکیده

Thinking is biological work and involves the allocation of cognitive resources. The aim of this study was to investigate the impact of fluid intelligence on the allocation of cognitive resources while processing low-level and high-level cognitive tasks. Individuals with high versus average fluid intelligence performed low-level choice reaction time tasks and highlevel geometric analogy tasks. We combined behavioral measures to examine speed and accuracy of processing with pupillary measures, which indicate resource allocation. Individuals with high fluid intelligence processed the low-level choice reaction time tasks faster than normal controls. The task-evoked pupillary responses did not differ between groups. Furthermore, individuals with high fluid intelligence processed the high-level geometric analogies faster, more accurately, and showed greater pupil dilations than normal controls. This was only true, however, for the most difficult analogy tasks. In addition, individuals with high fluid intelligence showed greater pre-experimental pupil baseline diameters than normal controls. These results indicate that individuals with high fluid intelligence have more resources available and thus can solve more demanding tasks. Moreover, high fluid intelligence appears to be accompanied by more task-free exploration.

Adaptive resource allocation for efficient patient scheduling

OBJECTIVE Efficient scheduling of patient appointments on expensive resources is a complex and dynamic task. A resource is typically used by several patient groups. To service these groups, resource capacity is often allocated per group, explicitly or implicitly. Importantly, due to fluctuations in demand, for the most efficient use of resources this allocation must be flexible. METHODS We pr...

Economic Attention Networks: Associative Memory and Resource Allocation for General Intelligence

A novel method for simultaneously storing memories and allocating resources in AI systems is presented. The method, Economic Attention Networks (ECANs), bears some resemblance to the spread of activation in attractor neural networks, but differs via explicitly differentiating two kinds of “activation” (Short Term Importance, related to processor allocation; and Long Term Importance, related to ...

Fine-grained efficient resource allocation using approximated combinatorial auctionsA parallel greedy winner approximation for large-scale problems

Combinatorial auctions, one of the most popular market mechanisms, have a huge effect on electronic markets and political strategies. Combinatorial auctions provide suitable mechanisms for efficient allocation of resources to self-interested attendees. On the other hand, efficient resource allocation is also becoming crucial in many computer systems that should manage resources efficiently. Con...

Toward Efficient Optimal Resource Allocation for a Frigate

The allocation of anti-air warfare weapon is an important aspect of command and control for a Frigate. This paper contributes to solve effectively the stochastic resource allocation problems known to be NP-Complete. Indeed, recently, efficient resource allocation algorithms have been developed in Artificial Intelligence which could improve adapt C2 to the 21st century. To address this complex r...
